Normally, when mentioning networking, it is automatically assumed to be looking for a job.
But let’s pause for a moment and expand that perspective.
Networking is not just a professional task, it is a platform to gain new information.
Through coffee conversations, digital meetings, or even informal interactions on LinkedIn, different concepts, sectors, and ways of perceiving things are added to our plate.
These are awesome brainstorming conversations, providing us with concepts for solutions to the issues we face in our day to day life.
The value of networking can be amazing when approached with a sense of wonder, rather than a specific purpose.
For instance: I remember contacting someone just because I found their work to be of great interest. That conversation didn’t land me a job, but it did help me look at a problem that I had been having in a new way.
This was a great turning point in understanding the importance of Networking for professional as well as personal growth.
Networking should be mutually beneficial and a person should always have a perspective to ‘Give to Others’ something to the people and society rather having the selfish ‘To Take Only from Others’ mentality.
So the next time you are engaging with someone, ask yourself, ‘What do I have to offer this person,’ instead of considering, ‘What am I going to get from them’.
There is a lot you can accomplish through an honest conversation so really do keep your expectations at bay.
